New atheists will deny that their worldview constitutes a belief system by defining atheism as meaning nothing but disbelieving in a theistic entity, and will deny that having an almost 100% rate of scientism (realism, physical, etc.) among them is defacto indication of a shared belief system.

It is all made worse by the unscientific faith that new atheists and pop science fanatics now place in the new priesthood.
