Privilege is when you get more than the baseline, not when you are at it. Your concept of privilege is indulgent opportunism. It can be seductive to place yourself at the center of the narrative universe as the tortured redeemer, but it is intellectually lazy and destructive. It is frightening that you cannot see how the awful the world your narrative leads to is. Reducing people to the circumstances of their birth and ancestry is precisely how hatred and bigotry took root. You’re just remaking them in your own image. You are a hero and victim in a world that doesn’t exist, mistaking a heart full of vengeance and pride for justice and mercy. And the cultural police state growing from the soil of your narrative is just going to become an even more insidious form of authoritarianism. I know you think you are doing and saying the right things, but just for the sake of authentic intellectual honesty try convincing yourself that you are not for a day or a week or a month. Surely if you were right this new perspective won’t stick, and no harm done. But you night notice that when you pull away from the confirmation bias and affirmation networks that constantly reinforce your narrative, things appear less simple and obvious than they once did. The only identity you should be worried about is the one based on how unique and incredible you are through your own efforts. I have no reason to doubt you have a lot of value and potential, and your willingness to have this discussion without automatically reducing me to some media stereotype speaks well of your character. Peace and prosperity to you, may you find adventure, joy and beauty for a long time to come.
