How realists, ie: materialists, physicalists, objectivists and positivists, have dug in so far they are now virtually identical to new age silliness.
A recent paper from molecular geneticist Johnjoe McFadden has been making the rounds in ‘science media’. The paper is called:
It has spawned headlines like:
Essentially McFadden’s theory states that brain activity emits an electro-magnetic field, and it is this field which we experience as consciousness. Or put more simply, consciousness is an energy halo that your brain wears. Far out, right, man?
This is how desperate realists have become to preserve their fundamentalist worldview despite growing amounts of evidence in several fields that their assumptions about reality no longer hold up to rigorous scrutiny — even within science itself.
Yet without a single scrap of evidence against them, realists still could not contend with the illogical nature of their claims. An embarrassingly illiterate media continues to pervert science into an increasingly oppressive and dogmatic belief system, and the realists have dug in so much that we are now being told that our independent experience of existence is an energy halo. This is the birth of realist woo, and it’s going to get a lot more ridiculous very quickly.
